Healthcare Initiatives

Beginning in August 2011, FMQAI will join with Medicare providers (including nursing homes, home health agencies, hospitals, dialysis facilities, and physician offices) to help achieve national goals for needed improvements by concentrating our efforts in the following focus areas:

Beneficiary and Family Centered Care
  • Conduct case review
  • Provide opportunities for addressing beneficiary and family concerns
  • Provide resources for beneficiaries and caregivers
  • Explore root causes to develop alternative approaches to improving care

Improve Individual Patient Care
  • Reduce healthcare-associated infections (HAIs)
  • Reduce healthcare-acquired conditions (HACs)
  • Reduce adverse drug events (ADEs)
  • Assist with Hospital Inpatient/Outpatient Quality Reporting programs

Integrate Care for Populations and Communities
  • Improve care transitions
  • Reduce hospital readmissions and acute admissions

Improve Health for Populations and Communities
  • Improve participation in Physician Quality Reporting System (PQRS)
  • Support Cardiovascular Health Campaign
  • Promote immunizations and screenings

FMQAI will implement two activities within these focus areas to enable the improvement in patient care expressed by these initiatives. These two proven approaches to effecting change include:
  • Convening and supporting Learning and Action Networks (LANs), a group of professionals and citizens who come together for the purpose of implementing change and spreading best practices through peer-to-peer learning and solution sharing.
  • Providing Technical Assistance to Providers, Facilities, and Partners, including focused, direct assistance for specific quality improvement questions and guidance that addresses the needs of local providers.

During the next three years, FMQAI will call upon all partners to convene, organize, motivate, and serve as change agents with us. As stakeholders and providers, we encourage you to actively contribute to the process of learning and, when appropriate, share ways to efficiently, effectively, and economically improve the quality of Florida’s patient care. Likewise, FMQAI pledges to be stakeholder-centric, ensuring that each policy, action, and decision is made with an educated and strategic consideration of its potential impacts on you.
