Hospital Leadership and Quality Assessment Tool (HLQAT*)
FMQAI is working with hospitals and nursing homes to assess and improve their organizational culture and subsequently clinical care processes and patient outcomes through the identification and adoption of leadership structures and systems. Leadership support and involvement from hospital executives, administrators, board members, clinical leaders, department managers, and physicians is essential in today’s healthcare systems where strong, interpersonal relationships can drive successful operations and quality of care. The Hospital Leadership and Quality Assessment Tool© (HLQAT) is designed to assess the perceptions of hospital board members and leaders about important areas of clinical quality improvement in their hospitals. The survey was developed by the University of Iowa, Department of Health Management and Policy, the Oklahoma Foundation for Medical Quality, Health Services Advisory Group, Brandeis University, Premier/Care Science, and with input from Westat. The HLQAT tool also helps hospitals identify and improve those structures, processes, and leadership activity that is associated with high performance in clinical quality.
