A Medicare patient has the right to appeal a hospital discharge is he or she feels they are too sick to leave. A Medicare patient can do this even if they are in an HMO. The hospital will provide "An Important Message from Medicare" which explains how to appeal the discharge. Call FMQAI at 1-866-800-8754 for an appeal. Our staff will look at the medical record to see if the patient should stay in the hospital. The Medicare patient will be informed of the decision.
- The Medicare patient does not have to leave the hospital.
- The Medicare patient does not have to pay for the extra days he or she is in the hospital while our staff looks at the medical record.
