In 2002, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) launched a national initiative to improve quality care in nursing homes by publicly reporting on Nursing Home Compare nursing homes performance on fourteen quality measures. As part of the same initiative, CMS began funding the Nursing Home Quality Initiative (NHQI) providing a Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) in each state.
QIOs understand the challenges nursing homes face. Resources are tight and high staff turnover is common. There is little time for activities beyond basic resident care. We want to be your partner in transforming these challenges into opportunities to improve quality care.
FMQAI (FMQAI) is the Quality Improvement Organization (QIO) for the State of Florida. Since 2002, the NHQI team has worked intensively with ten percent of the LTC providers in Florida. Nursing Homes working directly with FMQAI in the 7 th Scope of Work improved significantly on selected Quality Measures (QMs) compared to nursing homes that did not volunteer to work directly with us.
